Companies should be looking to use social media strategies in order to become a valuable resource and point of interest for their subscribers.

Every firm should be aware by now that they must have some form of social media method in place in order to compete with rival organisations.

However, president of SolutionSet Tim Ross and president of CatapultRPM Peter Cloutier, writing inDirect Marketing News, said there is more to social than just having a Facebook and Twitter page.

Web psychologist and author of Webs of Influence: The Psychology of Online Persuasion Nathalie Nahai recently suggested that using different media channels should set out a firm's core values.

Mr Ross and Mr Cloutier said you can't just create an online community and link it back to your website and expect people to interact.

"Social communities can play an important part in your overall digital strategy, and provide a means of leveraging the power of your current users and their shared interest in your category and your brand," the experts continued.
